Delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and Russia agreed during talks in Abu Dhabi to exchange 314 prisoners of war, marking the first such swap in five months, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Thursday.

Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s special envoy, described the agreement as the result of “detailed and productive peace talks.”

“While significant work remains, steps like this demonstrate that sustained diplomatic engagement is delivering tangible results and advancing efforts to end the war in Ukraine,” he said.

Discussions will continue and further progress is expected in the coming weeks, added Witkoff.

The trilateral meetings between Ukraine, the United States and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5. Following the first day of talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said an exchange of prisoners of war was expected soon.

“We must bring our prisoners home. Overall, our Ukrainian position is very clear: the war must be ended for real. Russia itself must be ready for this,” Zelenskyy stated.
