Ukraine strikes Russian minesweeper, ASW ships in Novorossiysk port attack

Ukraine’s Security Service’s (SBU) drones hit the Russian minesweeper Valentin Pikul and caused serious damage to two anti-submarine ships Eysk and Kasimov during the overnight attack on Novorossiysk port on March 2, killing three Russian sailors and wounding 14, according to hromadske’s SBU source.
In addition, the following were hit:
- the 30N6E2 guidance radar of the S-300PMU-2 Favorit complex;
- the Pantsir-S2 air defense missile-gun system;
- six out of seven oil-loading standers at the Sheskharis oil terminal.
“The SBU systematically reaches the enemy where he considers himself safe — in ports, on bases and in the deep rear. For Russian military facilities there are no ‘protected zones.’ As long as Russia wages war against Ukraine, it will have no peace anywhere — neither at sea, nor on land, nor in the rear,” the SBU stated.
Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko reported that sirens along the city’s coastline sounded overnight into March 2 due to an attack by unmanned surface vehicles. The Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters in Russia reported a UAV attack.
Following the overnight attack, Novorossiysk operated under a state of emergency. Firefighters extinguished a blaze at the fuel terminal. According to local authorities, the attack damaged eight apartment buildings and nine private homes, as well as a kindergarten. Seven people were injured.
