Belgorod Oblast governor resigns day after Russian fighter jet drops FAB bomb on local railway

A Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a high-explosive bomb on a railway line in Russia's Belgorod Oblast during a combat sortie on Wednesday, derailing a passenger train with 15 people on board and injuring one woman, Russian Telegram channel Moscow News reported, citing its own sources.
According to the sources, the FAB-500 aerial bomb did not detonate but destroyed approximately 25 meters of track.
Former Belgorod Oblast Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said the electric train traveling the Razumnoye–Tomarovka route derailed due to approximately two meters of missing track.
He said 15 people were on board at the time of the incident; one woman was hospitalized with a leg injury and bruising.
Gladkov initially suggested the derailment may have been caused by a deliberate attack on the railway infrastructure, but later deleted that version from his posts. On May 14, he announced his resignation as governor of Belgorod Oblast.
According to the Telegram channel, Russian Ministry of Defense bomb disposal units were dispatched to the scene and reportedly removed the munition to be defused at a test range.
