Ukraine plans to install anti-drone meshes in the Volyn region in the towns bordering Belarus, says Roman Romaniuk, acting head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration.

He adds that risks of military threat coming from Belarus remain. Anti-drone meshes will be installed along certain sections of roads, including within the Shatsk community. According to the official, the region has also set up engineering barriers and reinforced defensive positions.

“We must be as prepared as possible for any turn of events. Volyn is currently one of the best-prepared border regions in Ukraine, and this work must continue,” said Romaniuk.

Watch our story to find out what residents of border villages in Volyn think about the threat from Belarus and whether they prepare for a possible emergency evacuation.

Growing threat from Belarus

In April, President Zelensky said that Belarus was constructing new roads and setting up artillery positions in the areas bordering Ukraine. And in early May, he spoke of “specific activity” on the part of Belarus near the Ukrainian border.

Later, Ukrainian intelligence warned that Russia was attempting to involve Belarus in new aggressive operations “either against Ukraine or one of the NATO countries.”

On May 18, the Belarusian Ministry of Defence announced military drills involving the Russian Armed Forces, during which units would allegedly practice the combat use of nuclear weapons.

Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said that offensive operations by Belarus are a very real possibility.
