Russia kills a railway worker in attack on Konotop in the Sumy region and leaves the city without gas, water, and electricity
Russia has been continuing its attacks on the city of Konotop in the Sumy region since Wednesday night, targeting the city’s infrastructure and the railway depot, says Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin and Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi.
The morning attacks on Konotop infrastructure cut off gas, electricity, and water supplies in the city and damaged residential buildings.
Water is currently being supplied to the citizens on a scheduled basis; Konotop Mayor urged them to stock up on supplies.
Ukrzaliznytsia reported a “cruel strike” on the railway depot; according to preliminary data, it was attacked with Shahed drones.
“Not everyone had time to take cover after the warning. We’re going over the details second by second. It’s a painful loss, one of our colleagues was killed in this strike. Four colleagues were injured; our staff are with them at the hospital, and they’re receiving all necessary care,” says Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman.
According to the Konotop Mayor, a 42-year-old woman was killed in the morning attack. Two women and two men, all civilians, were also injured. They were diagnosed with burns to their hands, legs, heads, and bodies. One of the injured men has burns covering 55% of his body.
Just the day before, on June 10, Russian forces attacked the area around the train station in Sumy with a drone. The Shahed drone was shot down over the railway station building, and its debris fell onto passenger train No. 143 from Sumy to Rakhiv, causing the roof of the last car to catch fire. Passengers and the train crew were unharmed.
In total, Russia hit 26 settlements in the Sumy region on June 10, injuring 15 people.
Early on Thursday morning, Russia hit a residential building in Znob-Novhorodska hromada with a drone, killing a 68-year-old woman. Her two young grandchildren were also in the house. They were taken to the hospital for examination. According to preliminary reports, they did not suffer serious injuries.
