We retrieved a drone engine from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra roof, rescuers say

While clearing up the aftermath of the Russian attack, rescue workers retrieved the engine of a Russian drone from the roof of the Assumption Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, says Pavlo Petrov, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Service in Kyiv.
“We retrieved a drone engine from the roof. Most likely, if the engine is there, then the warhead must have fallen off somewhere nearby. The walls there are actually quite sturdy,” he said.
A spokesperson for the State Emergency Service reports that the fire was brought under control immediately after the attack and was stopped from spreading further inside the building.
He also added that at around 4.30 am, whilst rescue workers were at the scene of the attack at the Assumption Cathedral, there was another strike 50 metres from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
According to him, emergency repair work is still ongoing; State Emergency Service specialists are dismantling the damaged roof structure to assess the full extent of the damage as quickly as possible and then “start thinking about how it can be rebuilt”.
“If we don’t finish before dark today, we’ll stop for the night and resume work at 6 or 7 in the morning,” says Petrov.
More about the attack
Overnight on June 15, Russian forces attacked the Assumption Cathedral, the main cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The Security Service of Ukraine has established that Russian forces hit the Cathedral with a Heran-2 drone.
Russia also hit the nearby Mystetskyi Arsenal National Art and Culture Museum Complex and attacked the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio, destroying Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection.
Five people were killed in the attack in Kyiv, with the number of casualties rising to 30 (including two children); rescue operations are still ongoing.
