Ukraine and Russia have carried out another prisoner exchange, with 160 Ukrainian service members returning home after being held in captivity since 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said.
Those released include members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.
Among them, 115 fought in Mariupol, including at the Azovstal steelworks. Others defended Ukraine on the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy fronts.
In addition to soldiers and sergeants, 58 officers were also returned. According to the Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, these are senior officers. The youngest freed soldier is 26, and the oldest is 66. Also, 21 people with the same last names were on today's exchange list.
All of those released will undergo medical examinations, receive necessary treatment, financial payments and documents, and then go on to rehabilitation, Ukrainian officials said.
