SBU hits at least 7 Russian aircraft in attacks on Crimean airfields

At least seven Russian aircraft were damaged or destroyed in strikes on the Saky and Hvardiyske airfields in occupied Crimea, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) reported.

The strike on Saky was the second attack on that airfield this week. According to the agency, seven hangars used to store aviation equipment were hit there. The hangars housed Su-30SM, Su-30, and Su-24 fighter and front-line bomber aircraft.

According to preliminary information, at least seven aircraft were destroyed or damaged.

At the Hvardiyske military airfield, two hangars were hit that stored Shahed drones and aviation equipment, the SBU said.

The Saky and Hvardiyske airfields are described as two of the key aviation bases used by Russian military in Crimea. Tactical aircraft regularly take off from those bases to launch missile and bomb strikes on Ukraine and to support Russian operations on the southern front.

The strikes were carried out as part of a 40-day “operation of pressure” against Russia announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Each of our special operations means fewer enemy aircraft, less logistics, fewer depots, less equipment and less infrastructure supporting Russian aggression. We will continue to put maximum pressure on the enemy both on the front line and deep in the rear, depriving it of the ability to wage war against Ukraine,” SBU chief Yevheniy Khmara said.
