Russian attack on Kyiv city and oblast kills at least 17, injures dozens

At least one person was killed and at least 24 were injured in the ballistic strike on Kyiv, according to initial reports.

In the Obolonskyi district, a fire broke out at one address in a nonresidential building. One person was killed there and three others were injured.

In the Holosiyivskyi district, fires broke out in one-story nonresidential buildings at two locations. Four people were reported injured, two of whom were hospitalized. At another address on the grounds of an industrial enterprise, a small ammonia leak occurred after the attack damaged a system containing about 300 liters of the substance.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a warehouse inside one of the stores caught fire. In the Desnianskyi district, two non-residential buildings were on fire.

As of 8:13 a.m., rescuers had extinguished all fires caused by the Russian attack in Kyiv. Officials said one person had been killed and 15 injured.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later said the total number of injured had risen to 26, with 16 of them in hospitals. Prosecutors added that the injured included an ambulance driver, and that four victims were in serious condition.

A total of 680 rescuers and 140 pieces of emergency equipment were involved in the response.

Kyiv Oblast

In Kyiv Oblast, 14 people were killed and at least 22 were injured in the Russian attack, officials said.

In the Brovary district, nine people were killed, according to the head of the regional administration. Large fires broke out in warehouse buildings in Brovary, the settlement of Velyka Dymerka, the village of Kvitneve, and the village of Peremoha.

In the Fastiv district, firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire on the grounds of an enterprise. In the Bucha district, four people were killed, and a warehouse building burned in the village of Chaiky. In Sofiyivska Borshchahivka, a fire was extinguished on the grounds of a logistics enterprise.

Ukrainian Railways said dead people were found on the grounds of a railway platform near the attacked logistics centers in Kyiv Oblast.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that 17 people have already been killed in Kyiv and the surrounding region as a result of the Russian attack.

According to him, the main targets of the Russian attack were the warehouses of civilian enterprises, including a brewery, construction material warehouses, and civilian logistics facilities.

Zelenskyy emphasized that “ballistic missile interceptors could have saved the lives of those killed today.” He called on partners who are not ready to provide weapons to impose sanctions on Russian ballistic missile production.

“It is very important that our partners understand that delays in supplying them, or an unwillingness to provide anti-ballistic systems, lead directly to such horrific casualties and destruction,” Zelenskyy wrote.
