Oil depot reportedly hit in drone attack on Russia’s Sochi; possible air defense site also targeted (UPDATED)
A drone attack reportedly hit an oil depot in Russia’s Sochi overnight on Sept. 4, while reports also suggested that an air defense site housing an S-300 or S-400 system may have been targeted.
UPDATE: The drone attack was followed by restrictions on aircraft refueling at Sochi International Airport. According to a NOTAM cited by Russian outlet Verstka, refueling is temporarily available only through Lukoil due to “technical reasons,” with airlines required to confirm fuel availability with the operator.
Russia’s aviation authority also temporarily restricted arrivals and departures at Sochi airport for safety reasons. The fueling restrictions are in effect from the afternoon of Sept. 4 until Sept. 5.
Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin warned residents of a drone threat overnight.
The oil depot was reportedly hit in Sochi’s Adler district. Videos circulating online showed a large fire in the area. The same oil depot was previously attacked in August 2025.
Russian independent outlet ASTRA also reported a fire near the Sirius settlement, close to the border with Abkhazia, where an S-300 or S-400 air defense system may have been deployed. There was no immediate confirmation that the air defense system had been hit or destroyed.
Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attack.
