Ukrainian strikes halt operations at two major Russian oil facilities, General Staff says
Ukrainian strikes have forced two major Russian oil processing facilities to halt operations after sustaining damage in attacks on Aug. 26 and Sept. 1, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
An assessment of the Aug. 26 strike confirmed that operations had stopped at the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, according to the General Staff.
The facility is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, with an annual processing capacity of about 17 million metric tons of crude oil. It produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, lubricants and other petroleum products.
Reuters previously reported that the refinery - Russia’s fourth-largest and its second-largest gasoline producer - had halted operations following the Aug. 26 attack.
The General Staff also said operations had stopped at Novatek’s Ust-Luga complex in Russia’s Leningrad Oblast following a Ukrainian strike on Sept. 1.
According to the Ukrainian military, the attack damaged pipelines between an oil pumping station and storage tanks, a primary gas condensate processing unit and two hydrocracking columns. Fires and spills of petroleum products were also recorded at the facility.
Ukraine’s military intelligence previously said Ukrainian drones carried out the Sept. 1 strike and damaged key processing units and other equipment at the complex.
