Ukraine strikes 2 Russian oil refineries and drone launch site, military says
Ukrainian forces struck two Russian oil refineries and a site used to store and launch attack drones in a series of attacks on Sept. 21 and overnight into Sept. 22, Ukraine's General Staff said.
The strikes targeted the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim refinery in Ufa, the Kuibyshev refinery in Samara, and drone infrastructure in Russia's Oryol region.
Fires were reported at both refineries following the strikes, according to the General Staff.
The Ufa refinery has an annual processing capacity of about 7.5 million metric tons of crude oil and produces gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, liquefied gases and other petroleum products.
The Kuibyshev refinery, part of Russia's state-controlled oil company Rosneft, can process about 7 million metric tons of crude annually and produces gasoline, diesel and other petroleum products.
Together, the two refineries have a stated annual processing capacity of about 14.5 million metric tons.
Separately, Ukrainian forces struck a site near Tsymbulova in Russia's Oryol region that the General Staff said was used to store, prepare and launch attack drones.
At least three drone storage facilities were hit and caught fire, while a launch site for jet-powered drones and five launchers were damaged, according to the Ukrainian military.
The General Staff said Ukraine has been systematically targeting Russian drone storage, preparation and launch sites in an effort to reduce Russia's ability to carry out attacks on Ukrainian territory.
Russia launched 212 drones as well as ballistic, cruise and other missiles at Ukraine overnight on Sept. 22, according to Ukraine's Air Force.
