Russian drone strikes National Academy of Sciences building in Kyiv, killing one
A Russian drone struck a National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine building in central Kyiv on Monday, killing a woman and injuring three people as rescuers helped people escape the burning building through windows.
The strike hit the building on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district, causing a fire.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said three injured people were hospitalized. The Kyiv City Military Administration confirmed that a woman was killed in the district.
Videos from the scene showed people climbing onto windowsills to escape the fire as rescuers worked to evacuate them from the building.
Olha Atamanenko, an employee of the National Academy of Sciences presidium who witnessed the attack, told hromadske that she had left the building for her lunch break shortly before the strike.
Most of the institution's employees were still inside at the time, she said. Several employees had not yet been reached following the attack.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia would face a response for the attack on the academy building and other strikes on Kyiv and Dnipro.
Russian attacks on Kyiv earlier in the day also hit a pharmaceutical company and gas stations, while a business center was struck in Dnipro, according to Zelenskyy.
