Drone attack reported at Russia's largest oil refinery; Ukrainian manufacturer claims FP-1 involvement

A drone attack was reported in Russia's Omsk Oblast on Oct. 8, with footage circulating online appearing to show a fire at the Omsk oil refinery, the country's largest.

Omsk Governor Vitaly Khotsenko confirmed that air defenses were responding to a drone attack but did not identify who launched the drones or confirm damage to the refinery.

Ukrainian defense manufacturer Fire Point said Ukrainian forces had targeted the refinery using upgraded FP-1 drones.

The company claimed the drones struck the facility, more than 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) from Ukraine's border, and caused a fire. The claim has not been independently verified.

The refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft, has an annual processing capacity of approximately 22.23 million metric tons of crude oil.

The extent of any damage and its potential impact on refinery operations remain unclear.
