Ukraine received no advance warning of Russian ballistic missile launches before Kyiv attack, Air Force says

Ukraine's Air Force says it received no advance information about Russian ballistic missile launches before an attack on Kyiv late on October 12. Six missiles were detected by radar only as the attack was underway, with the military still investigating why no earlier warning was received.

Russian forces launched an estimated six ballistic missiles at several districts of Kyiv at around 10:10 p.m. on October 12, according to Ukraine's Air Force. The missile types have yet to be confirmed.

"The ballistic targets were detected by radar directly during the attack on Kyiv. No information about launches from enemy territory was received. The reasons are being investigated," the Air Force said.

Local Telegram channels reported that explosions were heard in the capital before an air raid alert was issued.

Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation subsequently warned against spreading unverified claims about the circumstances of the attack, including speculation that Ukraine had stopped receiving intelligence from its partners.

The center said the information was still being clarified and urged the public to wait for official statements.
