US resumes ballistic missile warnings to Ukraine, Zelenskyy says

The United States has resumed sharing intelligence with Ukraine, including advance warnings of Russian ballistic missile launches, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on October 20.

Speaking at a press conference following talks in Oslo, Zelenskyy said he had discussed intelligence sharing, Starlink satellite communications and air defense interceptors with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier that day.

"We were very specific. The conversation was very positive," Zelenskyy said, adding that he expected another conversation with Rubio within 48 hours.

The restoration of ballistic missile warnings follows Russian attacks on Kyiv on October 12 and 13, when Ukrainian authorities said they had received no advance information from partners about incoming ballistic missiles.

Ukraine's Air Force said at the time that warnings from partners sometimes failed to arrive.

US President Donald Trump subsequently denied that Washington had suspended intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Zelenskyy first said on October 18 that intelligence sharing had resumed.

The Financial Times previously reported, citing European officials, that the Trump administration had threatened to restrict intelligence sharing and weapons purchases unless Ukraine stopped striking Russian oil refineries.

It remains unclear why the ballistic missile warnings were interrupted or whether Washington formally ordered any restrictions.
