Russia fires 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv in three waves, killing two across Ukraine (UPDATED)

Russia launched three waves of ballistic missile strikes against Kyiv overnight on October 22, firing 21 missiles at the capital, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The strikes damaged residential buildings, energy facilities, railway and metro infrastructure, shopping centers, businesses and a monastery in Kyiv.
According to Zelenskyy, 12 Ukrainian regions came under Russian attack overnight. At least two people were killed and 34 injured across the country, including five children.
"Russian 'humanitarians' launched three waves of ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv since the evening," Zelenskyy wrote, using the term sarcastically.
He said the attack came almost immediately after another round of negotiations involving Russia and the United States.
"Russia carried out a demonstrative strike almost immediately after the latest negotiations. This means there are no real changes in its attitude toward everything that is happening," Zelenskyy said.
The president called for stronger air defenses, faster deliveries of interceptor missiles and further sanctions against Russia.
Drones and missiles
Ukraine's Air Force earlier reported that Russia had launched 210 drones overnight, including 110 jet-powered Shaheds, alongside Iskander-M, S-400, Zircon and Oniks missiles.
As of 9 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 181 drones, including 87 jet-powered Shaheds. Another 10 drones remained airborne at the time.
The Air Force reported strikes at 32 locations across Ukraine and falling debris at eight others.
