Ukrainian intelligence identifies US and Chinese components in Russia's new Filin missile

Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) has identified 35 US-made and 22 Chinese-made electronic components in Russia's new Filin cruise missile, which Moscow reportedly began using in late summer 2026.

The agency published a detailed breakdown of the missile's components and an interactive 3D model on its War & Sanctions portal on October 22.

According to HUR, the ground-launched missile was developed by Russia's NPO Molniya as a relatively inexpensive weapon powered by a jet engine.

Russia claims the Filin can travel up to 1,200 kilometers (746 miles) at speeds of up to 800 km/h (497 mph). These performance figures have not been independently verified.

HUR said the missile uses a Chinese-made inertial navigation system and a 16-channel Kometa satellite navigation module. Its onboard electronics are produced by the Russian company PLAZ, which is also involved in manufacturing Garpiya attack drones.

The intelligence agency identified similarities between electronic units used in the Filin and Garpiya.

The presence of foreign-made components raises questions about Russia's access to international electronics supply chains, although their origin alone does not establish how they reached Russian manufacturers.
