Zelenskyy calls Trump meeting substantive, focused on peace

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized his conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump as “substantive,” according to his post on X.
“We covered all the truly important issues,” Zelenskyy wrote. “I thank Mr. President, I thank the United States. We discussed how to achieve a ceasefire and a real peace. We spoke about how to protect our people. We appreciate the attention and the readiness to help bring peace closer. Details will follow.”
A number of Ukrainian media outlets reported that the conversation between Zelenskyy and Trump lasted about 50 minutes. This is longer than was planned, noted European Pravda.
After the meeting, there was no traditional press conference.
Background
Ahead of the talks, Trump told journalists he planned to address “obvious” issues and certain “difficulties” facing Zelenskyy.
He also revealed a prior conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who agreed to assist with Iran-related matters.
“I said, 'No. I don’t need help on Iran,” Trump recounted. “I need help on Russia. Okay?' I said, 'Do me a favour. Help us on Russia, not on Iran.' But he was very nice. We’ll talk about it. I think progress is being made.”
Last week, Trump abruptly left the G7 summit in Canada, where a meeting with Zelenskyy was scheduled, due to developments in the Middle East, the White House claimed.
