Explosion at Russian ammunition plant kills 12 in Chelyabinsk Oblast
An explosion rocked an ammunition factory in Russia's Chelyabinsk Oblast late on Wednesday, killing at least 12 people, regional governor Alexey Texler reported.
Texler initially reported nine deaths overnight but updated the toll after reports from pro-Kremlin broadcaster REN TV pushed it to 12.
OSINT sources claimed the Plastmass plant in Kopeysk was hit by drones, but Teksler denied that.
Telegram channel ASTRA said two blasts occurred — the second at the initial fire site — and the blaze likely still rages.
The Plastmass plant produces artillery shells, rocket projectiles and some aerial munitions, and disposes of outdated ammunition.
