European leaders commented on the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as their subsequent phone conversation, according to respective statements by European leaders on social media.

After the negotiation part between Ukrainian and American delegations at Mar-a-Lago, Zelenskyy and Trump spoke with European leaders.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb reported the participants. According to him, French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish President Karol Nawrocki joined the call, along with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Stubb said the call lasted over an hour. "We discussed concrete steps how to end the war. We are all working towards a just and lasting peace," he wrote on X.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki emphasized the active role of the U.S. president in the peace process and thanked him for the meeting initiative. He also highlighted Poland's strategic importance in supporting Ukraine, recalling that Rzeszów-Jasionka airport has served as a hub for over 90% of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale aggression began.

Nawrocki believes Warsaw's position will be decisive in signing a potential peace agreement.

"Today's conversation shows that any decisions on peace and security in the region must be made by all interested parties. The determination of the American side and unity of European states give a real chance to end the war started by Russia," the Polish president wrote.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reported "noticeable progress."

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof believes "very promising signals" are coming from the U.S. on the peace process.

"Now Russia must show that they really want to end this war and that they are serious about negotiating a just and lasting peace," he stressed and assured that the Netherlands will continue supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.

The Italian government said that, in Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's view, the key task remains achieving coordinated positions on Ukraine's vital interests and those of its European partners.

French President Emmanuel Macron said a meeting of "coalition of the willing" countries will take place in Paris in early January to determine each state's contributions to security guarantees for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy-Trump meeting

On December 28, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Talks lasted nearly three hours instead of the planned one. Afterward, both presidents spoke with European leaders.

The American president claims the meeting brought progress toward ending the war. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said the 20-point peace plan is 90% agreed, with security guarantees for Ukraine reportedly 100% coordinated.

Negotiating teams will meet next week "to finalize all discussed issues." Final decisions on the several documents for peaceful settlement that Ukraine is working on with the U.S. are expected in January.

Before meeting Zelenskyy, Trump spoke with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, calling it "good and very productive," and confirmed he would call him again — after the meeting with the Ukrainian leader.
