Polish authorities detained 147 foreigners during a nationwide police and border guard operation targeting illegal stays and wanted persons, including 91 Ukrainians against whom return proceedings have been initiated, the Polish Interior Ministry, Border Guard Service and police reported on Thursday.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Poland stated that following the operation, return proceedings have been initiated against 91 Ukrainian citizens.

This does not mean immediate deportation from Poland but the start of an administrative procedure that may last weeks or months. Citizens can appeal the decision or seek legal assistance.

The embassy stressed that it is monitoring the situation and is in contact with Polish law enforcement to clarify all circumstances.

Police said nearly 26,000 officers took part in the nationwide operation targeting people evading law enforcement.

Overall, law enforcement detained 1,944 people wanted under arrest warrants or court orders, including 147 foreigners sought by Polish authorities.

Among them were 91 Ukrainians, 14 Georgians, eight Belarusians, three Moldovans, two Russians, and 29 people from other countries, police reported.

The Border Guard Service said proceedings to compel foreigners to leave the country due to illegal residence were initiated in nearly 110 cases. In more than 20 cases return procedures were started because the detained individuals posed a threat to national security.

The Interior Minister said law enforcement conducted nearly 1,800 checks to verify the legality of foreigners’ stay in Poland.

Police noted that during three previous nationwide operations in 2025, law enforcement detained a total of 4,766 people, including 515 foreigners.
