Explosions reported in Russia's Novgorod Oblast overnight, Acron plant likely targeted
Eight drones were shot down over Russia’s Novgorod Oblast overnight into Monday, with local reports indicating the likely target was the Acron chemical plant in Veliky Novgorod, regional Governor Alexander Dronov confirmed.
“The professional work of fighter aviation and air defense units once again repelled an enemy attack,” he stated.
The governor reported no fallout from the overnight attack but urged residents not to approach drone debris.
Meanwhile the Telegram channel Astra, citing locals, wrote that the attack likely targeted the Acron PJSC chemical plant in Veliky Novgorod. It is one of Russia’s largest enterprises producing mineral fertilizers.
The Acron plant produces nitrogen and compound fertilizers as well as industrial products. Its output also includes ammonium nitrate, components of which can have both civilian and military industrial applications.
If confirmed this would not be the first attack on Acron. The plant came under drone attack in December. According to Astra, the December strike caused five workshops at the plant to suspend operations.
