Russia reports 2 killed and 17 injured in drone attacks in Belgorod and Rostov oblasts
Drone attacks hit Russia’s Belgorod and Rostov oblasts overnight into July 27, leaving two people dead and 17 injured, according to local Russian authorities. In Rostov Oblast, the apparent target may have been the local seaport area.
The Belgorod regional operational headquarters said 12 people were injured, including two children.
In the city of Belgorod, several apartments in a high-rise building caught fire, along with more than 15 parked cars. A private house was partially destroyed, and several other buildings were damaged.
Rostov Oblast Gov. Yuri Slusar said two people were killed in Rostov-on-Don — a married couple — and five others were injured. Two of the wounded, including a teenager, were in serious condition.
Damage was recorded in three districts of the city. Fires broke out at a private business, warehouse structures, several private homes and a number of vehicles after drones fell in the area.
Telegram channel Astra, citing witness footage, said a high-rise building on Beregovaya Street in Rostov was among the damaged sites. The city’s seaport is located about 1.5 kilometers from there.
Smoke was later seen over the area of the port’s fourth cargo area. According to the port’s own description, it is a universal transshipment complex. Although located on the Don River, it is classified as a seaport and is part of the Azov-Black Sea basin system, serving international shipping.
The port receives vessels flying foreign flags, handles state border opening and closing procedures for international ships, and dispatches voyages to countries in the Black Sea and Mediterranean basins.
In addition, local Telegram channels reported explosions in Taganrog in Rostov Oblast and in the city of Yaroslavl. The local governor in Yaroslavl said traffic had been blocked on the road out of the city toward Moscow.
