EU sanctions former RT France chief over Russian information operations

The EU Council said Fedorova, who served as president and director of information at RT France, helped implement and disseminate the outlet’s editorial line, including pro-Russian narratives surrounding Russia’s war against Ukraine.

After RT’s broadcasting activities were suspended in the EU, Fedorova continued promoting narratives aligned with Russian authorities through French media including CNews, Europe 1 and Le JDNews, the Council said.

Those narratives concerned the war in Ukraine, European support for Kyiv, NATO and relations between Russia and the EU.

The EU said Fedorova had engaged in foreign information manipulation and interference, or FIMI, that undermined democracy and stability in the bloc and its member states.

The sanctions freeze her assets in the EU and prohibit EU citizens and companies from making funds or other economic resources available to her.

The EU sanctions regime targeting Russia’s destabilizing activities now covers 81 individuals and 20 entities.
