EU considers new Russia sanctions targeting 12 businessmen and 105 entities
European Union ambassadors are reviewing a new set of sanctions against Russia that could be adopted in November, according to Rikard Jozwiak, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Europe editor.
The proposed measures include sanctions against 12 Russian businessmen and 105 entities, primarily Russian regional banks and oil refineries, Jozwiak reported on Oct. 21.
Companies based in China and the United Arab Emirates could also be included in the sanctions list.
The proposals additionally envisage tighter export restrictions on Russian companies under Annex IV of the EU's Russia sanctions framework.
The measures still require agreement among EU member states before they can take effect.
The discussions follow an Oct. 12 EU decision to add nearly 1,600 individuals and entities linked to Russia's military-industrial complex to its sanctions lists.
In July, the EU adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia, adding 48 individuals and 170 entities to its restrictions.
