Russian drone hits SBU headquarters in central Kyiv, Zelenskyy says
A Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service, or SBU, in central Kyiv on Sept. 4, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. According to Zelenskyy, the drone had been aimed directly at the office of senior SBU official Oleksandr Poklad.
The SBU building is located on Volodymyrska Street, opposite St. Sophia’s Cathedral in the heart of central Kyiv.
Zelenskyy said he had instructed Poklad to prepare an “appropriate, tangible and, if possible, reciprocal” response to the Russian attack once preparations are complete, adding that the Ukrainian military would support it.
“I instructed Poklad to respond to the Russians appropriately, tangibly and, if possible, reciprocally when everything is ready. Our military will support this response,” Zelenskyy said.
Emergency services were working at the scene.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said five people were injured in the city’s central Shevchenkivskyi district as a result of a Russian drone falling there. Four of the injured were hospitalized.
