Russian drone attacks on Kyiv kill 2, injure 25 as strikes continue into daytime
At least two people were killed and 25 injured as Russian drones continued attacking Kyiv into the afternoon of Sept. 23, following repeated waves of strikes on the Ukrainian capital overnight.
As of 1:50 p.m., 17 of the injured were being treated in Kyiv hospitals, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. One man died in hospital, while another was killed at the site of an attack.
In the Solomianskyi district, a drone struck a nine-story non-residential building at the fourth-floor level, while another fell on a store. A hromadske correspondent reported that the Diprozviazok institute building was damaged and firefighters were still working to extinguish a blaze. Nearby buildings were also damaged.
In the Holosiivskyi district, a drone fell on the grounds of a transport infrastructure facility. A covered market near Kyiv's Central Railway Station also caught fire following the attacks. Ukrainian Railways said the station building itself was not damaged.
The strikes also damaged equipment at data centers in Kyiv, causing internet disruptions for some users.
Russian drones have been attacking the capital in repeated waves since the evening of Sept. 22. Ukraine's Air Force said earlier on Sept. 23 that Russia had launched 161 drones across the country overnight, including 82 jet-powered UAVs.
