Rescuers are continuing rescue operations at two locations in Kyiv — the damaged nine-story and 16-story buildings in the Darnytskyi district, Kyiv State Emergency Service spokesman Pavlo Petrov told hromadske on Friday.

"There were also hits on private houses in the Darnytskyi district, but they are completely destroyed down to the foundation. It can no longer be said that we are conducting rescue operations there. As of now, rescuers are searching for remains of bodies for handover and further identification," he said.

Nine dead were already found in the nine-story residential building and pulled from under the rubble. Eight injured were freed and handed over to medics alive. In total, 22 people were rescued in this building.

Rescuers are currently searching for at least two more people who remain out of contact.

Russian troops hit the upper floors of the building, which are the most destroyed, and the entire structure collapsed downward. Therefore, rescuers focused primarily on the upper structures. The top three floors have already been completely dismantled, and rescuers are now working lower. Engineering equipment is operating in parallel.

More than 1,700 tons of building structures and debris have already been dismantled and removed from the site, and these works continue in parallel with the search.

In total, 25 units of equipment and almost 80 rescuers are involved in the work at the nine-story building.

Search operations are also continuing in parallel at the 16-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district, not far from the damaged nine-story one. There was also a hit on the upper floors there.

Pyrotechnicians worked at the site, removing missile remnants. Eight units of equipment and more than 30 rescuers continue searching for two more people who, according to reports, may have been there.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that as of the morning, 10 more people remain out of contact after the Russian massive attack on Kyiv. The State Emergency Service notes that the final number of dead will be known when rescuers completely clear the rubble.

Russia’s mass attack on Kyiv on July 2

Overnight into July 2, Russian troops launched 496 UAVs of various types and 74 missiles — air-, land- and sea-based — of various types over Ukraine. The main target of the attack was Kyiv. The Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiyivskyi, Pecherskyi, Podilskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Darnytskyi, and Obolonskyi districts were under attack.

The assault damaged and partially destroyed apartment and private residential buildings, non-residential buildings, an ambulance substation, a business center, a market area, and parked cars. In total, more than 130 houses were damaged.

Pavlo Petrov, a spokesman for the State Emergency Service in Kyiv, said that “in terms of the number of victims killed by Russia, this is one of the largest attacks on Kyiv.” As of the morning of July 3 , 30 people were known to have died, 10 were missing, and more than 90 were injured. A search and rescue operation is ongoing on the ground.

The aggressor state simultaneously used various types of air attack means from different directions, a large number of ballistic missiles and jet-powered UAVs. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the Russian night strike "specially designed by the Russians to cause the greatest damage."
