Ukrainian units withdraw from Vuhledar – Khortytsia troop grouping

The Ukrainian military command has given permission to carry out a maneuver to withdraw units from the city of Vuhledar in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk Oblast, reported the Khortytsia operational and strategic troop grouping.

The decision was made to preserve personnel and military equipment, and to take a position for further actions.

"Having suffered numerous losses as a result of prolonged battles, the enemy did not stop trying to capture Vuhledar. In an effort to take control of the city at any cost, it managed to direct the reserves to carry out flanking attacks, which exhausted the defense of the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of the enemy's actions, there was a threat to the encirclement of the city," the Ukrainian military reported.

On the evening of October 1, hromadske’s sources in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, which defended Vuhledar, reported that the Russians had captured the city. However, public broadcaster Suspilne wrote that certain parts of Vuhledar were still under the control of the Defense Forces, although most of the settlement was already occupied.

Donetsk regional governor Vadym Filashkin reported in the afternoon that fighting continues within the city. According to him, 107 people remained in Vuhledar. Earlier, Filashkin noted that they flatly refuse to leave. However, according to him, all the children were evacuated.
