Ukrainian drones targeted the LLC Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery in Russia’s Volgograd Oblast in an overnight attack, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The strike was carried out by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces and the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, in coordination with other components of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

The drone strikes caused significant fires at the facility. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The Volgograd oil refinery is the largest producer of petroleum products in Russia’s Southern Federal District, processing over 15 million tons of oil annually, accounting for 5.6% of Russia’s total refining capacity. The refinery produces diesel, gasoline, and aviation fuel, which are critical for the logistics of Russia’s armed forces.

“We are consistently working to reduce the aggressor state’s petroleum production capacity and weaken its army. Russia must fully face the consequences of its aggressive policy and end its war against Ukraine,” the General Staff stated.

A source in Ukrainian intelligence, cited by hromadske, previously reported a separate strike on the Lukoil-Ukhtaneftepererabotka oil refinery in Ukhta, located 2,000 kilometers from Ukraine.
