Ukrainian air defenses neutralize 71 targets during 86-drone barrage from Russia

Russian forces launched 86 strike drones, including Shaheds and Gerberas, at Ukrainian regions overnight into Friday, with air defenses neutralizing 71 targets as the attack continued, Ukraine's Air Force Command reported.

Russian forces fired more than 50 Shaheds from four directions: Kursk, Shatalovo, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

The aerial assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare teams, unmanned systems and mobile fire groups.

Preliminary data as of 9 a.m. show air defenses shot down or suppressed 71 drones, including Shaheds, Gerberas and other UAVs, in the north, east and center of the country.

Impacts from 15 strike drones were recorded at six locations, and debris fell at two sites.

The attack continues. A new group of enemy drones is moving in the north, heading toward Chernihiv, with threats also reported in Sumy Oblast.

Consequences of the attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strikes targeted Donetsk Oblast, Kyiv Oblast and city, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, including infrastructure and businesses.

Russians launched a massive assault on Pavlohrad in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, sparking several fires that rescuers contained, the regional military administration said. Two people were injured there.

In Kyiv, debris from a downed drone fell at several locations, including a roadway in Shevchenkivskyi district, damaging the trolleybus network. An unexploded enemy drone was found in the same district, with specialists on site.

"Russians are once again targeting civilians when the world, and the United States in particular, is calling for peace. We hear President Trump's position on stopping the killings and have agreed to all proposals to unblock diplomacy. But it seems Russia doesn't hear it. That means we need to more actively implement everything that strengthens us," Zelenskyy said, referring to the PURL program, cooperation and finalizing security guarantees.

He also recalled major drone and weapons procurement deals Ukraine proposed to the U.S. Zelenskyy called for "decisive actions" to make Moscow agree to diplomacy.
