Ukraine hits one of Russia's largest refinery and oil pumping station in overnight strikes
Ukrainian Defense Forces struck two Russian oil facilities in the Nizhny Novgorod and Yaroslavl oblasts on May 18–19, including one of Russia's largest oil refineries, Ukraine's General Staff reported.
On Monday, Ukrainian forces attacked the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery in the town of Kstovo in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. A fire broke out at the facility; the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
"The Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery is one of the largest oil refining facilities in the Russian Federation. Its processing capacity is approximately 17 million tons of oil per year. The plant produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel used to meet the needs of Russian occupation forces," the General Staff said.
On May 19, Ukrainian forces struck the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station, located near the settlement of Semibratovo in Yaroslavl Oblast. The extent of damage to that facility is also being determined.
"Ukraine's Defense Forces will continue to systematically take measures to reduce the enemy's military and economic potential and to bring about a complete cessation of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine," the General Staff said.
Earlier, drones struck the city of Yaroslavl, located approximately 185 miles from Moscow, setting off explosions and triggering air defense fire across the city.
