Explosions knock out two Russian pipelines in Penza Oblast, as local media claim 'planned exercises'
A series of explosions in the Russian city of Penza on Monday knocked out the country's unified main oil pipeline system, an informed source in Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence told hromadske.
The explosions occurred around 4 a.m. in Penza's Zheleznodorozhny district, with at least four blasts reported.
As a result, two pipes of a main gas pipeline with a capacity of 2 million barrels per day stopped operating. In addition, according to the source in Ukrainian intelligence, two more pipes of a regional gas pipeline were damaged at the same location.
However, local media began reporting on alleged planned training at facilities of Transneft Druzhba JSC, conducted jointly with emergency and special services. Under the training scenario, they were to eliminate the aftermath of man-made accidents at oil and gas infrastructure facilities. Residents were urged to remain calm.
As hromadske's source in the Main Intelligence Directorate noted, both affected gas pipelines supplied Russian military facilities involved in Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
