Ukrainian Defense Forces confirms hits on Russian warships, infrastructure in Novorossiysk port

Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck Russian warships, air defense radars and systems, and oil-loading infrastructure at the port of Novorossiysk using drones, an informed source in the Security Service of Ukraine told hromadske.

According to the report, the strike involved drones from the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center together with other Defense Forces units: the State Border Guard Service, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Preliminary data indicate the drones hit:

  • warships;
  • the 30N6E2 guidance radar of the S-300PMU-2 Favorit complex;
  • the Pantsir-S2 air defense missile-gun system;
  • six out of seven oil-loading standers at the Sheskharis oil terminal.

Novorossiysk city head Andrey Kravchenko reported that sirens along the city’s coastline sounded overnight into March 2 due to an attack by unmanned boats. The Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters in Russia reported a UAV attack.

Following the overnight attack, Novorossiysk introduced a state of emergency. Firefighters are extinguishing a blaze at the fuel terminal that broke out overnight as a result of the drone attack. Fueling operations at the terminal’s loading pier remain affected by the ongoing fire.

According to local authorities, the attack damaged eight apartment buildings and nine private houses, as well as a kindergarten. Seven people were injured.
