On November 3, 1996, the richest man in Ukraine, Yevhen Shcherban, was killed in Donetsk. At the time of the murder, his fortune was estimated at about $500 million. Scherban's companies were engaged in the production and sale of metal, gas, oil products, construction and financial transactions.
